Another week, another must win game. South came into the game against Altona with a remarkable chance to end the round in 6th place… or potentially bottom of the table. For some, something much worse happened… we got a draw.
This means that for our hopeful fans we remain in the relegation zone and for those pessimistic sickos we avoided bottoming out which could have spurred the board into sacking our divisive coach.
Coming into the game, it was good to see that Mells was back on the starting sheet, but worryingly Moller was nowhere to be seen… not even on the bench.
The first half was relatively dower. South probably had the better of the play but at half time the score was nil all. The second half presented a far greater opportunity for South when at the 58th minute Stojcevski from Altona received a red card. Unfortunately even against an undermanned Altona South were unable to score, worse still they somehow managed to have less shots in the second half then the first.
So another substandard result however there seems to be a clear step change in the table which somehow gives us hope. Avondale remain 5 points clear at the top, 2nd to 5th places seem to be pulling away… and then everything below is a bit of a crap shoot. We remain just a few points away from a finals place but perilously close to relegation.
That said points are not about to come easy. We are yet to face Heidelberg, Oakleigh or Avondale so the next few weeks may result in ultimate humiliation. Table aside though the biggest issue is the lack of class or style from the team. We have said this before on Blue and White Views – the last few years of our play has been tough to watch but is tolerable when we are getting results, now that things are turning, fans a staying away from games and those who still come aren’t having a good time. In the unlikely scenario we make the finals, what’s the point if we do so in such a painful way?
