South Women look to steady ship with new coach

After a ladder leading start to the season South’s NPLW side has experienced a patch of rough form collecting only 6 points from their last 5 games.

With just over half of the season passed now South still find themselves near the top but have relinquished top spot to a relentless Heidelberg United.

The Bergers have had near perfect form with 13 points from their last five games and now have a 6 point lead on second placed South.

South will not just need to reverse their form but will need to do so with a new head coach after Matt Shepherd departed from the position.

As well as a high ladder position, Shepherd has helped guide the club to the quarter finals of the Nike FC Cup after defeating a big spending Avondale FC but recent league form will need to be reversed if the team is looking to push for a premiership and find finals winning form.

Justin Micallef will now lead the side as Head Coach for the rest of the season. Micallef is currently the club’s Technical Director for its Female Football program and was an assistant at A-League Women’s outfit Western United previously.

They will take charge for the team’s next game against cellar dwellers FV Academy and will be looking for a strong win to get the season back on track.
