NSL Season
The 1993-1994 NSL Season, the competitions had 14 teams.
South started well, collecting ten points from their first five games. This included a big 3-0 win against Adelaide City in front of 7,000 people at Middle Park. Con Boutsianis scored a hattrick in that game.
An even bigger crowd would assemble at Middle Park soon after, with nearly 12,000 people attending to watch South defeat Heidelberg 4-0. Goals that day came from Durakovic, Tasios, Polak and Awaritefe.
After the Heidelberg game though, South’s form would dip with the team collecting five points from five games, before a midseason revival would shoot them up the ladder.
South would go onto win six games out of seven, which was enough to secure the team finals football. By the end of the regular season South finished 2nd on the ladder behind the Melbourne Knights.
In the finals though South weren’t good enough to get the job done. The lost the two-legged qualifying final to the Knights, with Mark Viduka leading the charge. They then lost to eventual Champions, Adelaide City to end their season.
Francis Awaritefe won the club’s golden boot that year with 15 goals, followed by Con Boutsianis with 11 goals.
