Quarter Final Preston Lions

South fans travelled in great numbers to the home ground of Preston Lions for the Australia Cup Quarter Final. What they were to witness was an unforgettable end-to-end game.

It was Preston Lions who would strike the first blow just after half time. At the 49th minute, Cuba gave Preston the lead, leaving the home fans to celebrate in the stand and controversially over the PA system.

However, the over-the-top celebrations did little to slow South Melbourne’s relentless attacking pressure. Eventually South found their breakthrough when Painter-Andrews scored the equaliser at the 59th minute, silencing the home crowd.

Just as the game appeared destined for extra time, Cocks stepped up to the moment and scored at the 86th minute from outside the box. The goal tamed the Lions and secured the win in front of the jubilant masses of travelling South fans.
