The Round of 16 saw Fremantle City travel to Lakeside to play South Melbourne in cold and rainy conditions.
South looked the better side early in the game. After just 10 minutes Cocks scored a long-range effort to give South the lead. At the 20th minute Yoo would double South’s advantage.
However, the game soon changed when at the 30th minute, Charlston gave away a penalty which Fremantle scored. Just a little later at the 36th minute another error from Charlston would help Freo equalise the score. After half time Freo would go onto score again to take the lead and stun the 2,035 strong crowd.
However, at the 70th minute Juach converted a penalty to keep South in the game. After 120 minutes the score remained at 3-3, pushing the fixture to a penalty shootout.
Charlston would ultimately emerge the hero, atoning for his earlier errors and making three saves to win the game!
